Before you put anything on your skin, know and understand your skin type. The five basic skin types are dry, oily, combination, sensitive and normal, although you can get a much more thorough skincar
2. Carefully Select Ingredients
Once you know your skin type, select skin care ingredients that won’t worsen existing conditions. For example, if you have dry skin, you’ll want to steer clear of drying ingredients such as certain alcohols and sodium or ammonium lauryl sulfate.
3. Look for Fewer Ingredients
This isn’t to say that some long-winded ingredient lists don’t contain high-quality formulas, but limiting the number of ingredients in your products will ensure that you know and understand each one.
4. Do a Patch Test
Before you apply any new product, do a patch test first. Test the product on a small area of skin on the inside of your forearm. In the event of an adverse reaction, you won’t be left with a red, flaking, swollen, or irritated face!
5. Ask an Expert
If you’re still unsure about a product, seek expert advice from your dermatologist. He or she can steer you in the right direction of the best products for your skin.
